Means Dry Lake. Mean's well ruins. Bomb craters and fragments from WW II practice.

Sawtooth. Steep jagged rock formations form a popular picnic area and favorite rock-climbing site.

Pritkin Cindercone. Colorful volcano, currently being mined. Source of lava flows housing the Rodman petroglyphs. The cinders are used for landscaping and sometimes as lightweight aggregate for concrete.

Cougar Buttes. Massive granite hills. Valley with two natural arches. Takes all day to tour. Popular motorcycling area. Popular filming location.

Johnson Valley Sand Dunes. Small, but classic sand dunes, very scenic.

Peterman Hill. Many minerals, many mines, and rock collecting. Limestone has been mined on the North West side of the hill. Magma intrusion into the limestone has formed small mineral crystals.

Giant Rock. One of largest granite boulders in the world. Site of old airport, U.F.O. sightings, last home to a German who dug out living quarters under the rock during W.W.II. He was suspected of spying and blew himself up under the rock when US. Government agents approached. In 2001, a large slab broke from the rock and slid to the ground. Nobody was hurt.

Soggy Dry Lake. Our prettiest dry lake with a surface smooth enough to race on.

Petroglyphs

Rodman Mountain Petroglyphs. Canyon walls covered with petroglyphs, Indian intaglios, bedrock metates and trails on top. Two hundred yards north is Rams Horn Intaglio and Boomerang Intaglio.  Click HERE to see a collection of photographs.

Rabbit Springs. Forms an oasis. Indians lived there a long time. Peter Davidson also had a way station there for the wagon traffic to the Ord Mts. On private property but you can see it from road.

Old Woman Springs. High volume spring fills two lakes. Famous Indian camp & cattle ranch. Private bus tours can be arranged. Call Chamber of Commerce for tour information.
